Roof gutter water overflowing

With hurricane season in full swing and the winter months just around the corner, this may be a good time to review your insurance to make sure your home is properly covered.

Here are a few tips and things to be aware of:

1. Review your homeowner policy to familiarize yourself with your current coverage and deductibles. Be aware of what your hurricane deductible is.

2. Do you have flood insurance? Even if your home is not near a body of water, this can be a very important policy to have and fills a gap left by an exclusion on your homeowner policy.

3. Having protective devices such as a central fire, burglar and low temperature alarm as well as an automatic water shut-off valve, can help greatly in preventing or reducing the severity of a loss.

4. Contact your insurance broker for an in-depth review to help understand exactly what protection your policy provides and make any needed updates.
